Sgt. Cherrie Lynn Parks Hedrick, Ret., age 69, passed away peacefully at her residence on July 29, 2025. Born on March 15, 1956 in Columbus, Ohio, she was the daughter of John Marion Parks and Murlie Mae Candice Salyer Davis.

A woman of grit, heart, and fierce independence, Cherrie became the first in her family to graduate high school in 1974. Seeking adventure and purpose, she enlisted in the Women's Army Corps in 1975—beginning a remarkable military journey that not only shaped her future but uplifted the lives of those around her. That same year, while stationed at Fort Bragg, she met and married Andre Gerard Hedrick.

In 1978, Cherrie honorably separated from the Army to welcome her most cherished role—that of mother to her daughter, Angela May. Confronted with limited opportunities and a steadfast desire to provide a better life, she reenlisted in the U.S. Army in 1982.

During her military career, Cherrie served at multiple duty stations, including two tours in West Germany—one of which took place during the reunification of East and West Germany—and through the Persian Gulf War. She later retired with honor and dignity, having demonstrated courage and commitment through every chapter of her service.

Cherrie always put family before herself. While working demanding civilian jobs, she remained dedicated to her daughter and her beloved grandchildren—Sydney Paige and Jacob Boyd. She had a kind soul and a soft heart, rescuing countless stray animals and volunteering at local shelters. Both sassy and sweet, Cherrie never met a stranger. She would give her last dollar to someone in need, selflessly sacrificing her own happiness without ever asking for anything in return.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Virgil Salyer; grandmother, Sarah "Sugarfoot" Salyer; father, John Parks; dad, Bill Davis; and brother, Jeff Davis.

She is survived by her mother, Murlie Davis; husband of 50 years, Andre Hedrick; daughter, Angela (Eric) Ray; sister, Patty Payne; brothers, Ryan "Pete" Davis, Mike Davis, Johnny Lee Parks, and Jason Parks; grandchildren, Sydney (Allen) Vinson, Jacob Puckett, Alex Ray, Micah Ray, and Peyton Ray; great grandchildren, Ezekiel and Beau Vinson; and nieces, Kimberly Latella and Jackie Nitz.

Sgt. Cherrie Lynn Parks Hedrick is deeply missed and remembered for the unwavering love and generosity she gave to all who crossed her path. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and all those she touched.

A private graveside service will be held at the Oak Rest Cemetery in Mayfield, KY. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #26.
