Dortha Sue Williams, 101, long time resident of Cuba, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at Mills Manor Health and Rehab.

Sue was born in Calloway County, Kentucky on September 20, 1924 to the late William Aldo and Carey Ulvie Waters, with Sue being the middle of five sisters.

She married the late Owen Elmo Williams in 1944 and shared 73 wonderful years with him until his passing in January of 2017. They began married life with her as a military wife while Elmo was stationed in the Philippines during World War II. Sue worked at Merit Clothing Company early in her life. She eventually went to beauty school and became a beautician with her longtime friend Ginny Wray, as well as helping Elmo with the family dairy farm.

Sue and Elmo had two children, an infant that did not survive, and Suzette.  Suzette married Roger Ward and have three children, Dionne, Shelly and Natalie.  She loved Suzette and her grand-children, but when great-grandchildren arrived, they could do no wrong.

Sue lived her life based on the principles of her faith, her family and her friends. She was a steadfast member of Cuba Baptist Church and loved the Lord. Her love of children could be seen by her many years spent caring for the nursery at church. She loved her family and her favorite moments were spent as a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. You could not be a stranger to Sue Williams, with her family and friends affectionately calling her "Mama Sue".

Sue is survived by her daughter Suzette (Roger) Ward of Sedalia, three granddaughters Dionne (Steve) Shelby of West Paducah, Shelly (John) Hodges of Paducah and Natalie (Kirk) Vessel of Paducah. Sue is survived by eight great grandchildren Lauren (Luke) Anderson of Mayfield, Ben Hodges of Madison WI, Abigail (Brody) Reeves of Portland TN, Hope Hodges of Lexington, Owen Vessel (fiancée Morgan) of Wingo, Isabel (Cohen) Adams of Barlow, Bayler Vessel of Lexington and Tatum Vessel of Paducah and one great great-grandchild Everett Reeves. Bonus daughter Bonnie (Joe) Paul of Fort Wayne, IN.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sue was preceded in death by her four sisters Mavis McCoil, Burline Paschall, Martha Windsor and Betty Crittendon.

Graveside services for Mrs. Dortha Sue Williams will be 3:00 p.m. on Friday, January 23 at Cuba Baptist Church Cemetery.  Visitation will be 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. on Friday at Byrn Funeral Home in Mayfield, KY.
