Gene W. Spain, Sr., age 88, of Mayfield, KY passed away Friday, July 31, 2026 at his residence.

He retired from Michaelsons Jewelry in Mayfield, KY. Gene also worked as a former Graves County Jailer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mayfield, KY.

Gene is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elizabeth Ann Spain; two sons, Gene (Stacey) Spain, Jr. of White House, TN and Chad (Tyra) Spain of Mayfield, KY; one daughter, Cheryle Reed of Mayfield, KY; one brother, Jerry (Willadean) Spain of Florida; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, William Anthony Spain; brother, Charles Spain; granddaughter, Lela Marie Spain; and his parents, Ogan and Lois Alexander Spain.

A funeral service for Gene W. Spain, Sr. is scheduled for 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at the Byrn Funeral Home in Mayfield, KY. Rev. Keith Allred will officiate. Interment will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery. Alex Chalker, Austin Hopper-Reed, Riley Spain, Sam Spain, Grason Spain, and Alden Spain will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at the Byrn Funeral Home.
