Dr. James H. Adams, Jr., age 72, of Mayfield passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Jackson Purchase Medical Center.

He was of the Methodist faith, a member of the American Dental Association, a member of the KY Dental Association, a former member of the Jaycees and a retired dentist. "Doc", as he was affectionately known to many, practiced as a general dentist in Mayfield where he served his community for 40 years.  He joined his father in practice after graduating from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry in 1980.  He loved his patients and many of them became lifelong friends.  He was an avid woodworker and finish carpenter, who loved spending hours processing lumber.  "Doc" also had an appreciation for hunting, fishing and working in his garden.  Jim was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be sorely missed.

Dr. Adams is survived by his wife, Julie K. Adams; two sons, Kevin Carter of Paducah, KY and James Henry Adams III of Mayfield, KY; one daughter, Jamie (Spenser) Pruiett of Water Valley, KY; one brother, John (Jana) Adams of Mayfield, KY; one sister, Amanda (Louis) Korfhage of Louisville, KY; and five grandchildren, Alyssa Brook Carter, Keaton James Adams, Emma Kate Adams, Emmitt Chad Pruiett and Jaxson Troy Pruiett.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. James H., Sr. and Sara DeLaudson Adams.

Funeral services for Dr. James H. Adams, Jr. will be 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Byrn Funeral Home in Mayfield, KY.  Rev. Ronnie Stinson, Sr. and Tyler Goodman will officiate.  Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be James Adams, Spenser Pruiett, Aaron Williams, James Williams, Shawn Williams and Tyler Goodman.  Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Mickey Badger, Dr. Mike Perry, Garland Moseley, Bill Ehleben, Lance Young and Anthony Agin.

Visitation will be 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at the funeral home.
