Mr. James "Jim" Edward Poat, age 87, of Mayfield passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at TriStar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

He was a devoted Christian and a retired employee of Illinois Central Railroad.

Mr. Poat is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pat Jones Poat; two sons, Steven (Pamela) Poat of Clarkson, KY and Micheal Shawn (Linda) Poat of Big Clifty, KY; one daughter, Cheryl Poat Hartig of Mayfield, KY; one sister, Kay Griffith of Wooster, OH; and four grandchildren, Ashli (Steven) Hayes, Jonathan Bennett, Matthew Bennett and Micheala Poat.

He was preceded in death by one brother, William Poat and his parents, Aubrey and Edith Weitlauf Poat.

A memorial service for Mr. James "Jim" Edward Poat will be held at a later date.
