James Clay "Jim" Gillum, II, of Mayfield, Kentucky, passed away peacefully in his home on the morning of Thursday, July 30th at the age of 81. Jim was born on August 15, 1944, to James Clay and Hallie (Byars) Gillum in Mayfield, Kentucky. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Jeanette (Hobbs) Gillum. He is survived by his children Daniel (Kelly) Gillum, Karen (Todd) Mathis, and Kammie Goatley; his grandchildren Ashley Gillum, Samantha (Travis) Brown, Leah (Evan) Arnett, Kristian Morris, Brock (Sierra) Morris, and Ethan Goatley; and his great grandchildren Adelyn, Sawyer, Luka, Kastille, and Korrine.

Jim was a dedicated employee of General Tire for over 30 years. In his retirement years, Jim enjoyed traveling, time with family, and connecting with nature through Native American practices and traditions. He was proud of his 26 years of sobriety and was a leader, sponsor, and support for many others on their sobriety journey. Whether through his big, joyful laugh or the quiet way he held space, his presence had a way of filling every room he entered.

Jim was known by many names – Dad, Papa Jim, Uncle Jim, Big Jim, and even Big Red. He never met a stranger, in person or on Facebook. He never forgot the birthday, anniversary, special occasion, or the achievements of his family, or his broad network of friends, many of whom he "adopted" as family.

Though his physical presence will be deeply missed, Jim's influence remains- woven into the lives he touched and the paths he helped set in motion. His love, his laughter, and his quiet strength will continue to be felt in ways that don't need to be seen.

Services for Jim will follow his wishes as an intimate gathering of family and close friends at his home to honor his life and spread his ashes on and around his land and beloved pond. In lieu of flowers or gifts, Jim included the following quote in his final wishes, "If, by chance, you wish to remember me, do it with a kind deed or word to someone who needs you."
