Obituary

Mr. Jim Moore, age 72, of Mayfield passed away on Friday, June 27, 2025 at Baptist Health in Paducah, KY.

James (Jim) Robert Moore was born on May 30, 1953 to Kenneth and Luverne Moore in Mayfield, KY.  He was a graduate of Mayfield High School class of 1971.  Jim was the first person in his family to earn a college degree, which he obtained from Murray State University.  Some of Jim's greatest passions were the radio business and Mayfield/Graves County.  He began working in high school at WNGO, and then was the first person hired at WYMC radio before it opened in 1976.  He went on to purchase WYMC in 1991.  Jim had one of the most recognized voices in Mayfield, whether it was heard from calling the time and temperature line or listening on the air, he was "the voice" of Mayfield and Graves County for over 50 years and tried to give back to the community as much as possible.  He was one of the first people to earn the Diamond level Certified Radio Marketing Consultant certification from the Radio Advertising Bureau in 1992.  He was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Mayfield Lion's Club in the 70's and became a member of the Mayfield Masonic Lodge in 1986.  He was the recipient of the Mayfield/Graves County Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018.  Jim served multiple terms on the Kentucky Broadcasters Association Board of Directors, was named one of five original KBA Ambassadors in 2018 and was inducted into the Kentucky Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame in 2020.  He was a member of the Mayfield First United Methodist Church.

Jim was a loving husband to Shann Moore of Mayfield, KY and the best father to his daughter, Valerie Moore of Frankfort, KY and his favorite four-legged companion, Max.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Donna Moore Swatzell.

He is survived by his wife; his daughter; one brother, Richard Moore; and two aunts, Beverly Moore (Donnie) Roberts and Mary Waggoner Kennedy.
