Mrs. Melody Sharon Smith Burgess, age 70, of Mayfield passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at her residence.

She was an active member of Chief Cornerstone Baptist Church, a retired Special Education teacher and a current employee of Barger Realty.

Mrs. Burgess is survived by her husband of 35 years, Alan W. Burgess; one son, Clay Burgess of Mayfield, KY; one daughter, Shelly Burgess of Owensboro, KY; one brother, Jeff (Susan) Smith of Bardwell, KY; and one sister, Sheila Black of Mayfield, KY.

She was preceded in death by her father, Marvin Eugene Smith and her stepfather and mother, Wilson and Rozella Flournoy Young.

Funeral services for Mrs. Melody Sharon Smith Burgess will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Byrn Funeral Home in Mayfield, KY. Rev. Keith Allred and Rev. Ronnie Stinson, Sr. will officiate.  Interment will follow at Milburn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Eduardo Castro, Sr., Eduardo Castro, Jr., Fred Creason, Brett Willie, Richard Heath and Josh Sanderson.

Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
