Roger Lee Klapp, 73, of Palmersville, Tennessee, passed away surrounded by family on September 14, 2026, in Paducah, Kentucky.

Roger was born December 19, 1952, in Mayfield, Kentucky, to Steve and Jean Canter Klapp.

Roger was a private man who lived life on his own terms. Independent, hardworking, and truly one of a kind, he never needed much to be happy. He appreciated a simple life, the freedom to do things his own way, and time spent outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was most at home in the country or near the water.

While Roger was never a man to seek attention or use many words, those who knew him best knew how deeply he loved his family. More than anything, he loved his children. They were one of the greatest sources of pride in his life, and beneath his independent nature was a deeply sentimental man who treasured memories and the people connected to them. He held onto the moments, stories, photographs, and reminders of the life he had built and the people he loved.

Roger spent many years working alongside his family at Klapp Roofing before going on to own and operate Purchase Concrete in Mayfield. He worked hard throughout his life and took great pride in what he did. His strong work ethic and independent spirit were defining parts of who he was.

For nearly 20 years, Roger called his farm in Tennessee home. There, he found the quiet, independence, and freedom of country life that suited him so well. In his later years, some of his favorite days were spent at Kentucky Lake- fishing, boating, or riding around in his Ranger looking for wildlife, stopping by Cedar Hill Market to grab a meal and saying hello to the neighbors.

Roger is survived by his children, Missy Brown (Ben) of Paducah, Kentucky; Gracey (Will) Handlin of Houston, Texas; Jacob Klapp of Mayfield, Kentucky; and Alex (Sara) Klapp of Louisville, Kentucky; his brother, Phillip Klapp of Nashville, Tennessee; his sister, Janice Calhoun of Mayfield, Kentucky; and seven grandchildren, who were part of the family he loved so deeply.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Jean Canter Klapp, and his brother, Gary Klapp.

Roger lived a life that was uniquely his own. He worked hard, valued his independence, loved his family deeply, and found happiness in the simple things. For a man who treasured memories, it is fitting that so much of what he leaves behind cannot be measured in possessions, but in the memories held by the people who loved him. His stories will continue to be told, his memories will be kept, and he will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Per Dad’s wishes no formal service will be held. A gathering to celebrate his life will take place later this fall. Byrn Funeral Home in Mayfield, KY is in charge of arrangements.
