Thomas "Tommy" Payne was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, coach, teacher, helper, and first baseman who left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Known for his big smile, warm hugs, and friendly demeanor, Tommy truly never met a stranger. He openly cared for others and loved to make people smile.

Born in Newport, Arkansas, on December 6, 1944, Tommy grew up with a love for people and a passion for sports that shaped his life. He was a standout American Legion baseball player. He went on to play baseball at Arkansas State University. His love of sports never faded, especially when it came to his family. He was a constant presence at his daughters' games, never missing an opportunity to cheer them on and support their dreams. He was always ready for a conversation about sports and could call "The Hogs" with the best of Arkansans.

Tommy built a career in the insurance industry, where his integrity, professionalism, and genuine care for others earned him lasting respect. Beyond his work, he found deep purpose in serving others. He was actively involved in church activities and shared his love of the game by coaching baseball, mentoring young players in sport and character. He raised his family in Mayfield, Kentucky, a place that remained dear to his heart. In retirement, he enjoyed life in Memphis, Tennessee; Bradford, Arkansas; and Frisco, Texas, continuing to build friendships wherever he lived. Whether known as "Uncle Tommy" to his nieces and nephews or simply "Tom" to his many friends, he was a steady, kind presence who brought people together.

Tommy left us early on Christmas morning, 2025. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, who he affectionally called "Red Head" Linda Thomas Payne; his brothers, Michael Payne and Melvin Coe Payne; and his parents, Melvin and Helen Coe Payne.

He is survived by his three daughters: Cindy Byrd (Ken) of Hendersonville, North Carolina; Staci Arauz (Osman) of Clute, Texas; and Terri Fortner (Barry) of Frisco, Texas. He is also survived by his brothers Jack Payne (Karen) of Billings, Montana, and Dale Payne (Clarise) of Bradford, Arkansas; and his sister-in-law, Deborah Payne of Nashville, Tennessee. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren—Alden, Madison, Riley, Allision, Morgan, Victoria, Tomas, Olivia, Mia, and Lane—who reside in Texas and Florida. He dearly loved his nieces and nephews who reside in Montana, Tennessee, Nebraska and Arkansas.

He loved Arkansas and was so thankful to spend time in his retirement sharing a lovely, quiet life on Union Hill with his brother Dale and his wife Clarise. In his time in Frisco, Texas, his caregivers at Stonemere Rehabilitation Center were a blessing to him and to his family. They loved him as family, and he loved them. Their compassion and respect for him brought comfort to him and his family.

Tommy Payne lived a life defined by faith, family, service, and friendship. His kindness, generosity, joyful spirit and sense of humor will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who were blessed to know him.
