Obituary

Mrs. Wilma Black Cavender, age 80, of Mayfield passed away on Monday, August 7, 2023 at Baptist Health in Paducah, KY.


She was a lifetime member of Moose Lodge #939, a member of Eastern Star Chapter # 443 for 56 years, and a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post # 26 for 36 years.  She attended Grace Life Church.  Mrs. Cavender was a waitress at Joe & Claudine's Restaurant from the 1960's to the 1980's.  She was the owner of Longhorn Restaurant 1986 - 1996. Wilma loved cooking pies and food to give to those who were sick.  She also sat with and took care of elderly people.  She will be missed by so many people. Wilma and Ben loved going out and dancing.


Mrs. Cavender is survived by her husband of 20 years, Benny Cavender; three sons, Ronnie (Dina) Lear of Hartselle, AL, Donnie Lear of Mayfield, KY and Lonnie Lear of Fairdealing, KY; daughter-in-law, Jackie Lear; six grandchildren, Laken Miller, Logan Lear, Lonnie Lear, Jr., Jacqueline Lear, Amanda Parsons and Jennifer Lear; two sisters, Ruby Harding and Faye Black; one brother, Cotton Willis; eight nieces and nephews, Pat Salem, Juanita Buero, Penny Cunnigham, James Black, Ricky Colley, Jimmy Colley, Ricky Willis and Becky Minter; two step-children, Debbie Jenkins and Stephanie Cavender; and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Louis Lear; 2nd husband, Wayne Black; daughter, Connie Lear; two brothers, Glen Willis and Robert Willis; one sister, Sue Colley; one nephew, Bobby Willis; and her mother, Callie Cole Willis.


Funeral services for Mrs. Wilma Black Cavender will be 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 11, 2023 at Byrn Funeral Home in Mayfield, KY.  Rev. Chad Lamb and Dr. Milton West will officiate.  Interment will follow at Mayfield Memory Gardens.


Pallbearers will be Ricky Colley, Greg Robertson, Craig Smiley, Chris Fazi, Jerry Sowiecki and Neal Williams.


Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
